Sooo........"Loose Ends", a comic I'm working on with my buds Rico Renzi :iconwhoisrico: and Jason Latour :iconjasonlatour: , will have a free Free Comic Book Day release tomorrow, in split-flip-book format with "I.C.E." by Doug Wagner, Jose Holder, and Brian Stelfreeze. Remember that flip book part, cause it may be stocked with the "I.C.E" cover face up and ours face down, but it's there. A preview's over here (spot the stray curse word for a free copy) at CBR: www.comicbookresources.com/?pa…;
We'll be set up sketching at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find along with fellow DA's:
Eraklis Petmezas :iconmadtiki: (tell him happy berfday!),  Sanford Greene :icongreenestreet: , Bridgit Scheide :iconbridgitconnell: , and Matt Wilson :iconfatheadwilson:
and A's:
Ian Flynn (Sonic the Hedgehog), Cully Hamner (is ginger, drew "RED"), Budd Root (rumored to be working on CaveMan), Chris Schweizer (Crogans Mighty Hammer), Andy Smith (Superman Confidential, childhood hero), and Brian fucking Stelfreeze (who is always last man standing, for whom every week is shark week).

Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find will be out in force at the Raleigh Comic Book Show this Sunday, April 10th! We will be set up with great comics including modern back issues, a great selection of Silver Age books and more. Our friends Andy Smith (WWE Heroes, Dean Koontz’s Nevermore, Superman Confidential), Budd Root ( Cavewoman), Chris Brunner (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Boondock Saints, Loose Ends), Jason Latour (Captain America, Daredevel, Loose Ends), and Rico Renzi (Yo Gabba Gabba!, Stumptown, Loose Ends) will be making the trip with us too. I’ve even heard if you come by and say the password to Chris, Jason, or Rico that they might be able to let you flip through a preview of their new series Loose Ends. See you there!

if you saw "Black Swan",  check out "The Fly"- the transformation beats are real close:  the funky black hair/feathers growing out the same shoulder spot, the fingernail bit in the bathroom sink, the legs breaking at the calf......does the vomiting count? not to undercut either, they're both nice flicks. also, "Signs" is "A Prayer For Owen Meany" with aliens; note the sewing mannequin w/ the moms dress still on it (blue in "Signs", red in APFOM). and "Apocalypto" is "The Gods Must Be Crazy" backwards. no, not really.

Thanks to everyone who's taken a look at my gallery here, and especially those who've commented. While I was in NY this past month the pageview ticker passed the 20K mark, way more than I had a right to expect- much appreciated. Have fallen behind in responding to comments, part flakiness, part OCD about typing (delete is my most used key), and part the downside of staying away from the computer, as much as possible, while I was away. Sorry about that, but geez, I really needed a break from this thing. Even that still meant a couple hours in front of the screen every other day or so. There's nothing convenient about it, and no good time for it, and I highly recommend it to anyone.  Also, read James Sturms series at Slate.com about unplugging from the internet for a few months, he found a clever/productive way to justify doing what I suspect many of us think about on a regular basis. Anyways, will be playing catch up this week, and, again, apologies for going AWOL- just the way it's gotta be sometimes. Hope all's well.

PS hey! look:

-Sanford Kossin www.flickr.com/photos/7914634@… never heard of him before, one of my brothers had a stack of MASH books with Kossin covers that blew my mind;  he's also done movie posters and some Mad magazine work I'm trying to track down.

-Andrew Robinson :iconandrew-robinson:  he's working on a GN that's looking pretty classic.

-Toby Cypress :icontcypress: his OGN Rodd Racer just came out, is incredible.

-James Sturm's Slate series www.slate.com/id/2249562/entry… also say what a great cartoonist (Golem's Mighty Swing, Market Day) and teacher he is. When he taught at SCAD I was in his first class, a formative experience, and I'm sure he's only gotten better since. He started a school even. Who does that? An impressive fellow.

nope, can't go to SDCC, on lockdown hardcore, but check out whatever they have about Tron for me, and try a fish taco-if you've never had one, they're delicious and not at all as gross as they sound. Also, swing by the Artist Alley where Mark Irwin :iconmarkirwin: will be set up at table FF-24 with art for sale (like this sweet Alien stuff  geddlee.deviantart.com/art/Ali… pencilled by :iconspacefriend-krunk: ),  and don't miss out on David Williams :iconbrohawk: , he's got a deal going:

"Peep this....> www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk8OfV…
Come get a FREE copy of "Brohawk's Weapons of Choice the art of David Williams" with
purchase of an original $125 sketch of your choice.
There will be some available at San Diego Comic Con 2010 at the "Big Wow" booth.

Quick "Hello" and "Thankyou!!!" to everyone who still stops by, that anyone looks at all is very much appreciated, especially with the radio silence. Apologies for the lack of response, sometimes it's the only way I can get anything done, easily distracted and that. HeroesCon is next week www.heroesonline.com/heroescon… , my favorite convention, and probably yours too if you've been.  Jason Latour :iconjasonlatour: and  Rico Renzi :iconwhoisrico: will be be dragging me out the fortress of solitude to set up shop, along with a metric f*ckton of incredible artists and retailers, it's going to be super-nerdy and fun. Um....what else? Think that's it for now. GO TEAM COMICS.

-Wanted to welcome Shawn Crystal :iconinkpulp: to DA and make sure everyone checks him out, he's a beast and a scholar. Shawns been putting it down in comics for years, currently on a monster run of Deadpool stories, and is also head of the Sequential Art Department at SCAD.  Can't stress how much I've learned from him over the years- his consistent quality, constant pursuit of the next level, and an ability to verbalize what he sees with a sharp mind. It's evident in his work and the students who came up under him. Check him out and keep checking, he's got unbelievable range....
           - A long overdue recommend as well of the SIDEBAR podcast, hosted by the scholars Dwight and Swain,  a show of comic/illustration interviews. They got Tommy Lee Edwards,  John Paul Leon, Josh Middleton, Michael Lark among others in the archives, along with the occasional epic, like the Adam Hughes and George Pratt episodes.  Dwight and Swain are top at getting into the nitty-gritty, bringing to comics what Terry Gross brings to NPR: searching questions, wide range of knowledge, and a sense of humor.....uh.... they interviewed Rico and I too.....

if anyone has been to the blog i do wif Rico Renzi :iconwhoisrico: , it's apparent i'm pretty spotty with regular posting, sometimes on top of it, sometimes radio silence. there's prolly gonna be more radio silence in the near future, and in the meantime oldies  in the gallery will have to suffice. still keeping busy, Loose Ends ( written by Jason Latour :iconjasonlatour: ) for the last 5 pages had been at a story point we couldn't give away, prolly that for a bit more. then im doing a couple covers thatll have to stay  mum for now. so, uh, yeah apologies if the gallery isnt fresh right now, and apologies in advance for when i go AWOL. very much appreciate anyone who stops by, behind on responding to messages right now, but your DA galleries fuel many late night sessions.

a big thankyou to everyone who's stopped by, as well as Mark Irwin :iconmarkirwin: Skottie Young :iconskottieyoung:  Boston Joe :iconboston-joe: and Stefawn :iconr3537l1f3: for shining their spotlights in this direction. am shocked at the amount of visitors in just this first week, will try not to disappoint.  the overwhelming amount of great work and general enthusiasm here reminds me of what's so great about art school, have checked out the galleries of everyone who's commented and more- it'll be tricky to keep my favorites gallery manageable. allright, all this sincerity is gonna make me yak.
there's a lot of overlap with the stuff in the main gallery, it's all about teamwork. Jason Latour :iconjasonlatour:  wrote (he can also draw his arse off) the story Loose Ends i'm chipping away at with Rico Renzi on colors. Rico :iconwhoisrico: and i have done a bunch of stuff over the years, so what's not here you can find at his shop in addition to all the drawin, paintin, and coloring he does while waiting for me to hurry the hell up.
  anyways.
